MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Alex Rins has questioned Yamaha’s decision to determine his MotoGP future after just three races on its new V4 machine in the 2026 season.

The Spanish rider returned to factory status in 2024 following race-winning spells with Suzuki and strong performances with LCR Honda. However, Yamaha remains in a rebuilding phase, with on-track results not yet reflecting the project’s full potential.

The switch to a V4 engine marked a major technical shift aimed at closing the gap to European manufacturers. While offering improved feeling compared to the previous Inline configuration, the bike still struggles with consistency, particularly in braking stability and corner entry.

Rins scored points in two of the opening three rounds, matching the bike’s best result so far, yet the decision regarding his future was made early in the development cycle.

“I was surprised because after just three races they had already decided my future. With the V4, the feeling was actually quite good,” Rins said.

“My commitment was total, but that’s MotoGP. I will continue to give everything.”

Rins also highlighted how perceptions in MotoGP are heavily influenced by machinery, with riders often overlooked if they lack a competitive bike.

“If you don’t have the right bike, people forget about you. We can’t perform miracles; we have to work with what we have,” he added.

For 2027, Yamaha is expected to field a new line-up featuring Ai Ogura and Jorge Martin, signalling a strategic shift for the Japanese manufacturer. Meanwhile, Rins faces a critical phase in his career to return to a competitive position.

As development continues, rider evaluation within a technical context remains crucial. Such early decisions underline the intense pressure within modern MotoGP, particularly amid tightening competition between manufacturers.
