Max Verstappen took to the top step of the podium on Sunday in Bahrain, one day after he bagged the team's maiden pole position of 2026. The breakthrough came after a long and challenging campaign, taking until round 16 for the Milton Keynes-based squad to finally get its hands on a winner's trophy.
Red Bull has appeared much more competitive in recent weeks under team principal Laurent Mekies, coming agonisingly close to victory in Baku where George Russell ultimately prevailed by a very slim margin.

Securing that elusive first victory was the absolute primary target for the outfit. "Getting our first win was on top of the list, we said it quite a few times," Mekies told media including RacingNews365, adding that the milestone felt very far away at times before finally being realized.

Now that the initial hurdle has been cleared, Mekies insisted the team will continue to push forward and even take calculated risks to unlock further performance from their package. The new agenda centers entirely on extracting maximum data and developmental knowledge.

"What was second in the list, if you allow me to call it like that, was to use the next races to maximise the learnings. We will continue to experiment, we will continue to take some risks to maximise that learning," Mekies explained regarding their upcoming race weekend strategy.
Looking ahead to Singapore, a venue Red Bull anticipated would suit its car layout, Mekies remained cautious about potential pace drop-offs. He drew comparisons to McLaren and Ferrari, both of which enjoyed strong spells pressuring the front-runners before slipping back down the competitive order.
