After a hiatus since the end of 2023, Red Bull has officially rejoined forces with the factory Honda team in MotoGP starting from the 2027 season. The return of the Austrian energy drink giant signals a strong intent from Honda to reclaim its former glory in the premier class.
Red Bull was previously a major backer, though not the title sponsor, of the Honda team in the past decade. However, they decided to leave at the end of 2023, shortly after Marc Marquez abandoned Honda due to the bike's drastic decline in performance. Marquez's departure and Honda's struggles prompted Red Bull to shift focus to other projects, including KTM.
Now, the tide has turned. The new 2027 regulations promising tighter competition, coupled with Pirelli tyres replacing Michelin, have become a major attraction. Honda also secured the signature of Fabio Quartararo, the 2021 world champion, who will lead their charge from 2027. This combination convinced Red Bull to return.

The deal has been announced as a multi-year agreement, with prominent Red Bull branding on the bikes, in the garage, and on rider apparel. Although not the title partner—that spot remains with Castrol—Red Bull's presence is a significant morale and financial boost for Honda.
Team manager Alberto Puig welcomed the collaboration. "It is a collaboration which makes clear, logical sense," he said. "I know that neither party will accept anything less than victory and that is what we must work for to once again make this combination the reference." Puig himself will relinquish his role next season.
For Quartararo, this deal carries personal implications. For almost his entire MotoGP career, he has been synonymous with Monster Energy. Now, he is expected to relinquish his personal sponsorship. The question is whether he will be brought into the Red Bull family or continue without a personal sponsor, like Marquez did when he gave up his Red Bull deal to join the Monster-backed Ducati factory team. There is no such issue for Quartararo's presumed 2027 teammate, Diogo Moreira, who is already a Red Bull athlete.
Red Bull's return to Honda marks a new chapter in MotoGP paddock dynamics. This partnership is not just about money; it's about the ambition to bring Honda back to the top. With Quartararo on the bike and Red Bull's support, Honda hopes to challenge Ducati's dominance and other strong teams. The 2027 season will be the ultimate test.
