Isack Hadjar has officially been retained by Red Bull Racing for at least one more season, following an impressive debut campaign with the Milton Keynes squad. The announcement comes ahead of the Frenchman's return to racing after a wrist injury that sidelined him for three races.
Hadjar, who stepped up from Racing Bulls last season, was immediately trusted to partner Max Verstappen. Despite only being in his second Formula 1 season, he has proven to be a solid teammate. He is just 74 points behind Verstappen despite missing three rounds due to injury.
Consistent points finishes and a highly competitive podium at the Monaco Grand Prix are evidence that Hadjar has seemingly broken the long-standing second-seat curse at Red Bull. Since Daniel Ricciardo's era, the seat alongside Verstappen has often been a daunting prospect, but Hadjar appears different.
Full confidence comes from team boss Laurent Mekies. He described the contract extension as an easy decision. "We’re very excited to continue our journey with Isack. Since joining us at the start of the year, he has been superb on and off track, especially considering this is only his second Formula 1 season, which made extending his contract an easy decision," Mekies said.
Hadjar himself welcomed the news. The 21-year-old expressed his excitement to continue working with the team. "I am really excited to continue with Oracle Red Bull Racing. From the moment I signed, I set out to dedicate myself to the Team, and with the support of Laurent and everyone in Milton Keynesg I’m constantly looking to listen, learn and push myself further every single day, which only makes me more excited about what lies ahead," he stated.
With this confirmation, Red Bull retains the Verstappen-Hadjar pairing for the 2027 season, providing stability amidst upcoming new technical regulations. This move also signals that the team is pleased with the development direction of their young driver.
For Hadjar, this is a golden opportunity to continue growing and perhaps challenge Verstappen in the future. For Red Bull, it is a promising long-term investment.
