The American squad Haas F1 has officially confirmed the signing of 21-year-old Brazilian talent Rafael Camara on a multi-year contract, securing his much-anticipated promotion to Formula 1 for the 2027 season. This major announcement brings a definitive end to the team's search for a successor to Esteban Ocon, whose departure at the conclusion of the 2026 campaign was finalized following a two-year tenure.

This prestigious graduation follows an extraordinary rise through the junior single-seater ranks for Rafael Camara, who currently leads the Formula 2 championship standings with Invicta Racing. He holds a crucial seven-point advantage over his closest rival, Nikola Tsolov, with only two rounds remaining on the calendar in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

As a long-standing member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Rafael Camara has claimed three dominant feature race victories this season in Spain, Belgium, and Azerbaijan, complemented by an impressive tally of five pole positions and six podium finishes that highlight his raw speed and tactical maturity.

His ascent to the pinnacle of motorsport is built upon consecutive championship triumphs, having conquered the Formula Regional European Championship in 2024 before dominating Formula 3 in 2025. These stellar achievements now position him as a prime contender for a remarkable third successive junior category title.

Having been integrated into Ferrari’s junior development system since 2021, Rafael Camara gained vital early exposure to F1 machinery during a private test with Haas at Portimao in August. Piloting the team's VF-25 chassis, he immediately caught the attention of team principal Ayao Komatsu through his exceptional pace and rapid adaptation to an unfamiliar car.

"Rafa managed to create an environment to get the best out of himself, it was very impressive and certainly the laps he completed were special," Ayao Komatsu stated regarding the test. "We’re all excited about this opportunity and really committed as TGR Haas F1 Team to nurture this talent and provide a place where he can flourish."

Reflecting on his milestone promotion, Rafael Camara expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to step up to Formula 1. "I’m very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver," Camara said. "It’s an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me."

The young Brazilian emerged victorious from a rigorous evaluation process conducted by Haas, beating out several high-profile contenders including team reserve Jack Doohan, reigning F2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli, and Toyota-backed driver Ryo Hirakawa, all of whom had previously sampled older generation Haas machinery.
