Ending weeks of intense paddock speculation, Rafael Camara has officially been confirmed to race in Formula 1 starting from the 2027 season with the Haas team. The talented Brazilian driver has been signed to replace Esteban Ocon, marking a major milestone in his motorsport career following a stellar progression through the junior formulae ranks.
His arrival at the American outfit will pair him alongside fellow Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy graduate Oliver Bearman. Notably, both drivers were signed by Ferrari at the exact same time back in 2021 after competing in the scouting world final at Maranello. Furthermore, Camara's promotion makes him the second Brazilian driver on the elite F1 grid, joining Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto.
Camara's junior resume is remarkably impressive. As the reigning FIA Formula 3 champion, he currently leads the FIA Formula 2 championship standings. Should he secure the F2 crown, he will become only the second driver in history after Oscar Piastri to win consecutive junior titles spanning Formula Regional Europe, F3, and F2 in successive seasons.

The Brazilian's path to the pinnacle of motorsport was significantly boosted by a standout performance during a Testing of Previous Car outing at the Algarve circuit in Portugal last August. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Formula Scout at Monza while rumors swirled, Camara admitted that driving an F1 car is what everyone always dreams about, and that dream has now officially become reality.
Expressing his delight upon the official announcement, Camara stated: I am very happy to be joining the team as a Formula 1 driver. It is an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me. Making it to F1 has been my goal for as long as I can remember, but I know this is only the beginning and my focus is on preparing for this new challenge.
Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu heaped high praise on his new signing, emphasizing the mature approach Camara displayed during testing. I don't need to tell everyone about his achievements in the junior formulas, it has been very impressive, Komatsu said. He showed when we had him drive in our TPC program in Portugal that he could handle himself very well with not a huge amount of time to learn the car, showing us more than just raw speed.
