Ferrari protege and Formula 2 championship leader Rafael Camara will make his Formula 1 debut with Haas in 2027, securing a multi-year deal to replace Esteban Ocon. The Brazilian youngster has emerged as one of the most promising talents in the motorsport feeder series.
As a core member of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, Camara has dominated headlines during his rookie F2 campaign, showcasing remarkable race craft and maturity under pressure. His transition to the pinnacle of motorsport marks another successful graduation from the Maranello-backed driver development program.
Expressing his delight over the milestone announcement, Camara stated, "I’m very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver. It's an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me. I’m also very grateful to the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy for their support and for everything they have contributed to my development over the years, as well as to my family for always being there throughout this journey. Now my focus is on preparing myself in the best possible way for this new challenge. There will be a lot to learn, and I’m looking forward to working closely with the team, understanding the car and continuing to develop as a driver."
With three feature race victories in 2026, Camara holds a crucial seven-point lead over his title rivals heading into the final rounds of the F2 season. A potential championship victory would place him alongside elite names who transitioned swiftly and successfully into Formula 1.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu highlighted the team's strong confidence in Camara following impressive private test outings in Portugal. The American outfit is fully committed to nurturing the young talent as they shape their driver lineup for the future.
