Fabio Quartararo has a hobby that rarely gets the spotlight: collecting Formula 1 helmets. In a recent video posted by the official MotoGP website, the Yamaha rider revealed his impressive collection, complete with some of the biggest names in F1 who have swapped helmets with him.
The 2021 MotoGP world champion is known to be a huge F1 fan, often attending Grand Prix weekends as a guest. Recently, he shared a picture of his helmet shelf on Instagram—not just his own racing lids, but also those from MotoGP rivals like Valentino Rossi, plus a selection of F1 helmets from driver exchanges over the years.
"I'm a big fan of Formula 1," Quartararo said. "So, I like to exchange [helmets] also with Formula 1 drivers. One of my personal relationships is with Daniel Ricciardo. So, it's the first one I had. [I have one] with Charles [Leclerc], with Lewis [Hamilton], [Pierre] Gasly, Lando [Norris]."
Despite the impressive collection, the Frenchman still has a wishlist. "One that I would like, maybe... actually, I'm really happy already, but maybe [George] Russell, [Oscar] Piastri. So, it's a nice collection and nice memories," he added.
Interestingly, Quartararo was once scheduled to test an F1 car a few years ago, even completing simulator time as part of the preparation. However, the run never materialized.
This story highlights the long-standing tradition of helmet swapping between MotoGP and F1 stars. Marc Marquez, for instance, has tested a Red Bull F1 car, while Rossi tried out Ferrari and Mercedes machinery.
Speaking of Marquez, last week at Aragon he opened up about the advice he gave Red Bull F1 driver Isack Hadjar, who missed the Dutch Grand Prix due to a wrist injury. "I'm not a doctor, of course, but just for advice because sometimes for a rider, or a driver in this case, it's super difficult because sometimes you feel that maybe you can," Marquez said. "I learned in the past that missing one race will not change your life."
