Fabio Quartararo insists he has nothing left to prove to anyone despite enduring a 76-race winless streak in MotoGP. The 2021 world champion with Yamaha says his motivation now comes entirely from a personal desire to return to the front of the championship.

It has been almost four years since Quartararo last stood on the top step of a MotoGP podium. The situation contrasts sharply with the beginning of his premier-class career, when the French rider required only 19 races to secure his first MotoGP victory during his second season with Petronas Yamaha SRT.

Quartararo’s best opportunity to end the drought came at Silverstone last year before a ride-height device failure destroyed his chances of victory. The Frenchman became emotional after the race and broke down while speaking to the media, but years of dealing with pressure have taught him how to recover quickly from difficult moments.

“I have nothing to prove. If I’m here, it’s just because I want to be back for myself,” Quartararo told MotoGP.com.

Before his rapid rise in MotoGP, Quartararo experienced a difficult period during his Moto3 and Moto2 career. From a very young age he was compared with Marc Marquez, but the enormous expectations contributed to a turbulent path that saw him move across four teams in four seasons.

“From 15 to 18 years old, I was going through hell. They already compared me with top names, but I was not getting the results that I wanted,” Quartararo admitted.

His career eventually recovered through his collaboration with Luca Boscoscuro at Speed Up in Moto2 before stepping into MotoGP. However, after winning the 2021 world title, Yamaha struggled to keep pace with the technological evolution led by the European manufacturers, particularly in aerodynamics and ride-height devices.

From a technical perspective, Yamaha still faces major challenges with its new V4 project. During the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, Quartararo’s race time was approximately 20 seconds slower than his own runner-up result on Yamaha’s previous inline engine package one year earlier. The comparison highlighted how extensive the V4 development process remains.

Despite the struggles, Quartararo continues to maintain his reputation as Yamaha’s leading rider. His five pole positions and podium return last season demonstrated that his raw speed remains highly competitive whenever the bike allows it. The situation has also intensified speculation regarding a future move to Honda from 2027, although no official confirmation has yet been made.

“When you taste the feeling of winning, you don’t want to lose it,” Quartararo explained.

The 27-year-old also stressed that his motivation remains extremely high both on and off the track. He even admitted enjoying intense physical training sessions as part of maintaining the fitness required to compete in modern MotoGP.

With the French Grand Prix at Le Mans serving as his home event this weekend, Quartararo now approaches one of the defining moments of the 2026 season. Amid Yamaha’s difficult rebuilding phase with the V4 programme, Quartararo’s objective remains clear: returning to victory not to silence critics, but for himself.
