Quartararo-Honda 'Match Made in Heaven' Says Crutchlow

The impending move of Fabio Quartararo to the Honda factory team for MotoGP 2027 has received full backing from Cal Crutchlow. The former rider, who has raced for both manufacturers, described the combination as a "match made in heaven". In his view, Quartararo's and Honda's shared ambition to return to the top is a solid foundation for success.

Quartararo, frustrated by Yamaha's lack of progress with the M1 in recent years, chose not to renew his contract and signed a two-year deal with Honda. The news was made official at the end of July, although the agreement was reached as early as winter, before he even tested Yamaha's new V4-powered M1. This will be the first time Quartararo races for a manufacturer other than Yamaha in MotoGP.

With the 2027 regulations bringing a major reset to the championship, Crutchlow sees Quartararo's move as a wise decision. "I know the way Fabio rides, his character, and his personality. He wants to win, Honda wants to win – there's no reason why that won't be a match made in heaven," he said. Crutchlow also praised Quartararo's talent and work ethic, which he believes will be a great combination with a Honda eager for victory.

Alberto Puig, who will step down as Honda's team manager in 2027, also welcomed Quartararo's arrival. "Fabio is a world champion, one of the fastest riders on the grid. Honda is happy with this," he said. Puig emphasized that the target for Honda and Quartararo is clear: to return to the top. While he acknowledged that achieving that goal is not always easy, the fighting spirit of both parties is expected to bring significant change.

Next season, Honda will have an entirely new factory lineup. Quartararo will be joined by either Diogo Moreira from LCR or Moto2 star David Alonso, both already contracted by Honda. The decision on who will race for the factory team and who will take the second LCR seat remains pending, adding intrigue ahead of the 2027 season.

Quartararo's switch to Honda not only reshapes the MotoGP power dynamics but also gives fans hope for a fierce battle at the top of the standings. With pure talent combined with the might of Honda, many are optimistic that Quartararo can once again become a serious title contender.
