Fabio Quartararo has hinted at “something special” for fans during the 2026 French MotoGP weekend at Le Mans. The home event is expected to become one of the most emotional moments of the season for the Yamaha rider amid growing speculation surrounding his future beyond 2026.
Le Mans arrives at a critical stage for both Quartararo and Yamaha following a difficult Spanish Grand Prix weekend at Jerez. Despite the tight layout theoretically helping to reduce the weaknesses of Yamaha’s new V4 engine package, Quartararo finished only 14th and ended the race around 20 seconds slower than his runner-up performance at the same circuit one year earlier.
The deficit appeared even more concerning after Alex Marquez improved his race pace by roughly 7.5 seconds on the way to consecutive victories. The comparison highlighted how Yamaha’s V4 project still faces major work, particularly regarding acceleration performance and rear-tyre efficiency on corner exit.

However, positive signs emerged during Monday’s Jerez test when Quartararo recorded the seventh-fastest lap time. The French rider reported improved front-end feeling after Yamaha evaluated several new components, including revised aerodynamic packages, a new swingarm, electronic settings, and updated chassis configurations.
“Le Mans is always one of the most special weekends of the year for me. The support from the fans is incredible and gives me extra motivation every time I ride here,” Quartararo explained.
Yamaha also returned to last year’s tri-plane front wing design during the Jerez test as part of its aerodynamic evaluation programme. Team director Massimo Meregalli confirmed the collected data was encouraging, with some of the tested updates potentially appearing at Le Mans depending on rider preference.
From a technical standpoint, Yamaha continues chasing improvements to its V4 project, which still lacks competitiveness against Ducati, KTM, and Aprilia in several performance areas. Development priorities remain focused on braking stability, rear grip under acceleration, and electronic responsiveness during corner exits. Le Mans, with its repeated acceleration zones, is expected to become a significant benchmark for the project’s progress.
“After the work we did in Jerez, I'm curious to see how things feel on this track – and I also have something special in store for the fans this race weekend,” Quartararo added.
The hinted surprise is widely expected to involve a special livery for his home Grand Prix, potentially marking Quartararo’s final French MotoGP appearance as a Yamaha rider before a possible switch to Honda in 2027. The emotional atmosphere surrounding Le Mans is also amplified by Quartararo’s strong connection with French fans since winning the 2021 MotoGP world championship.
Meanwhile, team-mate Alex Rins finished only 21st in the Jerez test but remained optimistic about Yamaha’s development direction. With back-to-back events continuing into Catalunya alongside another IRTA test, Yamaha is now entering a crucial phase in determining the effectiveness of its V4 upgrade programme during the middle stage of the 2026 season.
