Australian driver Oscar Piastri faces a critical test heading into this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix as he looks to reverse a difficult run of form. The youngster has not finished inside the top three since the Miami Grand Prix back in May, with another missed podium this weekend threatening to mark his longest winless or podium-free streak since entering Formula 1 in 2023.
This slump arrives amid a testing period for McLaren, a team that struggled to match the pace of front-running outfits at the recent race. Despite those struggles, Oscar Piastri produced a resilient recovery drive from a pit-lane start to salvage a commendable sixth-place finish for the squad.
Meanwhile, teammate Lando Norris could only manage a ninth-place finish, prompting team principal Andrea Stella to subsequently assess McLaren as fielding merely the fourth-fastest car package on track. Asked whether improved execution could pave the way back to the podium, Oscar Piastri admitted the solution requires addressing deeper performance windows.

"I think so, but I mean that’s a very big part of the job. Both executing and optimising things. We know we’ve not been as competitive as we would have liked the last couple of weekends," Oscar Piastri explained, noting that sixth place was realistically the maximum achievable result given their overall competitiveness in Malaysia.
The return to the Marina Bay Circuit presents a fresh technical hurdle, especially with Singapore hosting its inaugural sprint weekend format. With limited practice time available, Oscar Piastri and McLaren must rely heavily on simulator data and sharp setup adjustments to conquer the narrow street circuit.
