The professional racing future of Phillip Tonn in the WorldSBK Sportbike category is currently facing a massive threat following a prolonged and severe hand injury throughout the 2026 season. The 21-year-old German rider was last seen competing on track back in April at Assen, before being forced into an indefinite hiatus due to physical complications that failed to heal properly.
The situation has grown increasingly alarming as even his personal manager reportedly lost all contact with him since August. This total silence from the rider has sparked widespread speculation within the paddock that his hand injury is so severe and problematic that a professional comeback is slipping far away or potentially becoming entirely impossible.
During his last conversation prior to cutting off communication, Phillip Tonn expressed deep frustration regarding his inability to move his hand correctly. He noted that even his attending physician warned him about the strong possibility of retaining a permanent extension deficit that would permanently alter his physical capabilities.

The lengthy absence forced the UK-based Kove Racing Team 109 to shuffle through a series of replacement riders since mid-May to fill the vacant seat. The team utilized Loris Schonrock at Most, Daniel Mogeda at Aragon, Alessandro Zanca at Misano, alongside Hugo de Cancellis at Magny-Cours and Cremona, who is also scheduled for the season finale at Jerez.
Meanwhile, the squad's campaign with the 450cc machine in the Sportbike class has struggled significantly following their Supersport 300 title success last year. The lack of competitiveness leaves the team fighting down the order, with a ninth-place finish in the opening Assen race remaining their absolute peak result of the current season.
