The late-race chaos at the Supercars event in Ipswich has had major repercussions. David Reynolds, who initially finished eighth, was relegated to 16th after a five-second penalty for contact with Cam Hill.
For the Team 18 driver, it was a rollercoaster race. He was spun around by Jayden Ojeda early on, but fought back with a long stint under Safety Car before pushing hard on fresh tyres in the closing laps.
Meanwhile, Ryan Wood suffered an even worse fate. The New Zealander dropped from 14th to 23rd after a 15-second penalty for spinning James Golding during the first Safety Car restart.
The incident began when Wood attempted to overtake Anton De Pasquale at Turn 4. He lost the rear of his Walkinshaw Toyota, causing a collision with De Pasquale. The chain reaction sent De Pasquale's Camaro into the hapless Golding, who spun into the dirt.
It capped a tough day for Wood, who struggled to 13th and 18th in qualifying and finished ninth in the opening race. However, the biggest loser was Golding, as a 20th-place finish dropped him to 11th in the championship.
Fortune smiled on Jack Le Brocq, who reclaimed the final Finals Series position he had lost to Golding earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Brodie Brown secured a fairytale victory in the Ipswich blockbuster.
