Heading into the 2026 Australian Grand Prix weekend at the iconic Phillip Island circuit, Pedro Acosta arrives with high ambitions after struggling to match the pace of dominant Aprilia riders during the previous round in Indonesia. The young Spanish standout representing the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing squad managed to extract the absolute maximum from his package, securing sixth and fifth-place finishes at Mandalika while sitting fifth in the championship standings, 97 points adrift of leader Jorge Martin.
Reflecting on his performance at the coastal Australian layout last year where he clinched a sprint podium and a fifth-place finish in Sunday's main race despite battling rear tyre issues, Acosta approaches the 2026 event with measured caution regarding tyre degradation. He acknowledges that Phillip Island remains one of the trickiest venues on the calendar for managing grip levels over a full race distance.

Alongside keeping a close eye on rival manufacturers and recognizing the historical threat posed by riders like Marc Marquez at this specific track, unpredictable weather conditions are expected to shake up the competitive order throughout Saturday and Sunday following a dry Friday practice session.
Embracing the prospect of inclement weather, Acosta openly admitted that wet track conditions could play directly into his hands while providing an extra layer of spectacle for the global audience tuning into the championship battle.
This weekend's grand prix also carries heavy emotional weight as it marks the final time the premier class will race at Phillip Island under the current schedule, prompting heartfelt reflections from the young KTM star regarding the legendary venue's unique atmosphere and passionate fan base.
