Sami Pajari continued his impressive run at Rally Paraguay, setting the second-fastest time on the Hohenau stage while extending his lead at the top. The Toyota driver now holds a 26-second advantage over Hyundai’s Hayden Paddon, who sits second.
There was a moment of concern near the end of the stage when Pajari’s car ended up hanging over a ditch, with the rear wing taking some damage. The Finn, however, kept his composure and claimed he hadn’t even noticed the incident. “Oh, really? Hopefully it’s nothing big. I didn’t feel anything while driving. We’ll have to see what happened,” he reflected.
Elfyn Evans of Toyota is third, 56 seconds off the lead, with Hyundai’s Adrien Fourmaux a further 40.2 seconds behind in fourth. Evans described the stage as tricky: “A clean run. There were a lot of jumps, so it would have been easy to damage the car. It wasn’t easy to find a rhythm.”
M-Sport Ford’s Josh McErlean holds fifth, while Oliver Solberg is chasing him from less than a minute behind. Home hero Diego Dominguez is seventh overall and leads WRC2, with Gus Greensmith second in the category, 40.3 seconds adrift.
Six more special stages await on Saturday, with the rally concluding on Sunday. Pajari’s lead looks comfortable, but in WRC, nothing is ever certain until the final stage.
