Oscar Piastri Speaks Out Following Dramatic Final-Lap Clash at 2026 F1 Singapore GP

Oscar Piastri refuses to blame his teammate after a devastating final-lap collision completely ruined McLaren's strong points-scoring finish in the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix sprint race.

The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix sprint race concluded in absolute disaster for the Woking-based squad. Following a 30-minute delay triggered by torrential downpours, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were running comfortably in fifth and fourth place respectively during the closing moments of the 100-kilometer dash. However, on the very last lap of the event, a desperate overtaking maneuver completely derailed the outfit's weekend.

While hunting down Charles Leclerc of Scuderia Ferrari, Norris attempted a late dive down the inside to pass Piastri at Turn 5. The two papaya-liveried machines aggressively collided, sending Piastri into a spin and forcing his immediate retirement from the race. Norris managed to gather his car and continue, but he dropped all the way down to eighth place, salvaging a single championship point while Max Verstappen cruised to victory ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Norris was subsequently placed under active investigation by the FIA race stewards.

Given the massive championship implications in the Constructors' standings, paddock insiders widely expected Piastri to react with intense fury toward his teammate. Instead, the Australian driver offered a remarkably unbothered assessment regarding the costly incident.

When asked by media representatives whether he had reviewed the crash footage to evaluate internal team protocols, Piastri entirely downplayed the severity of the lost points. I've not seen it properly. I mean, from where I sit, I'm not... You know, it's for fourth and fifth for a sprint race, so... I'm not bothered either way, Piastri stated.

Rather than throwing Norris under the bus or launching into a heated critique of his teammate's aggressive driving style, Piastri immediately shifted his focus toward the massive workload now facing the McLaren garage crew. Because the sprint format leaves an extremely tight turnaround window ahead of the main Grand Prix qualifying session, the mechanics were left scrambling to repair extensive bodywork damage on both cars.

Just obviously it's a lot of work now for the team to get both cars fixed, so... Yeah, just a shame for the team, Piastri concluded.

With Norris actively apologizing over the team radio and admitting he misjudged the available space at the apex, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella faces a significant task in managing internal dynamics moving forward.
