The 2026 Formula 1 season enters its final six races with mounting concerns inside the Woking camp after Oscar Piastri openly admitted that his team is unlikely to resolve its ongoing performance limitations before the championship concludes.
The Australian driver stated that the current aerodynamic and mechanical package has effectively reached its performance ceiling in the short term. While acknowledging that the previous outing in Malaysia yielded a positive step in understanding how to adapt the machinery to his driving preferences, he confirmed that no instant breakthroughs are on the horizon.
The sweeping technical regulations introduced for 2026 have created persistent adaptation hurdles across the entire grid. Piastri emphasized that the heavily revised machinery and distinct tire characteristics will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future, noting that while personal progress continues, comfort levels inside the cockpit are still far from ideal.

Describing the MCL40 behavior as an all-or-nothing proposition, Piastri highlighted the lack of a middle ground in its handling window. He also praised the reigning champion Lando Norris for repeatedly flattering the car's true capabilities by extracting extraordinary single-lap pace during qualifying sessions.
Team principal Andrea Stella has previously echoed these sentiments, confirming that fundamental solutions to the chassis limitations will only arrive with the 2027 challenger. McLaren currently sits third in the constructors' standings on 339 points, holding a precarious seven-point advantage over Red Bull heading into the United States Grand Prix weekend.
