Opel has officially secured the services of Mitch Evans, the most successful driver in Formula E history, for its maiden season in the 2026/27 FIA Formula E World Championship. The German manufacturer has made a statement of intent by landing the 32-year-old New Zealander.
Evans joins the Opel GSE Formula E Team after a decade with Jaguar, bringing with him a record 16 race victories. His experience will be crucial as the team prepares for the new GEN4 era, where technology and strategy will be more important than ever.
The Kiwi will be partnered by former Formula 2 champion Theo Pourchaire, creating a lineup that blends proven race-winning pedigree with youthful ambition. This pairing signals Opel's serious intent to challenge at the front immediately.

Opel Motorsport Director and Team Principal Jorg Schrott expressed his delight: "We have secured our dream team. Mitch Evans was our preferred candidate from the very beginning. His commitment underlines the seriousness of the entire project."
Schrott also highlighted Evans' character: "We have already met him on and off the track. In addition to his exceptional sporting pedigree, he fits perfectly into our team as a person. After so many years with another manufacturer, he was deliberately looking for a new challenge. Now the Opel family and Mitch are taking this step together. We are here to challenge at the front."
Evans, who narrowly missed out on the title in the London finale last season, sees this move as the ideal opportunity for a fresh start. "I am proud to be an Opel works driver and to be part of this new chapter in Formula E. After ten years with a manufacturer, it was time for a new challenge. The leap to GEN4 cars represents the perfect moment to start something new," he said.
He remains focused on finally clinching the world title: "The world championship title is still my big goal. I have a score to settle in Formula E. That's why moving to Opel feels like the right new challenge. I want to contribute my experience and play a strong role in the championship."
