Formula 1 driver Esteban Ocon delivered a humorous comparison regarding the FIA software glitch that occurred on the formation lap, equating the technical failure to restarting a Windows computer. The race held at the Sepang circuit was already delayed by an hour due to heavy rain before the formation lap finally got underway under the Safety Car.
Due to the lowering of the hybrid power unit distribution in wet weather conditions, teams were required to load specific software parameters to handle torque delivery effectively. As this marked the first true wet race under these circumstances, testing for such an instance had never taken place, resulting in a multitude of cars slowing down and some stopping altogether on the circuit.
The unexpected anomaly forced cars to return to the pit lane, sparking another 40-minute delay while the FIA hastily developed and distributed a software update to resolve the issue. Esteban Ocon was among the drivers affected by the glitch and shared his amusing perspective with the media, including Motorsport Week, when asked about the sequence of events.

"Not too sure [what was happening]. The throttle was not working, so that was quite interesting. I’ve never seen that before," Esteban Ocon explained. He further added, "I did a 'restart Windows' and everything went back fine! So I stopped the car, just restarted Windows and went again! So it was quite funny."
Maintaining his lighthearted view, Esteban Ocon even compared the bizarre scenario to a pre-British GP Lego go-kart race. Although he enjoyed a competitive early phase in the race, subsequent tyre changes saw him slip down the order, ultimately crossing the finish line in 15th place, one position behind Haas teammate Oliver Bearman.
