Nissan Locks in World Champion Rowland and Maloney for GEN4 Era

Oliver Rowland will continue to be Nissan's backbone in Formula E. The Japanese manufacturer has officially announced that Rowland, who clinched the world title last season, will partner with Zane Maloney for the upcoming Season 13, marking the start of the GEN4 era. This decision puts an end to speculation about Rowland's future, which had linked him to other teams.

The new contract marks Rowland's fourth consecutive season with Nissan and his seventh overall with the manufacturer. Last season, the British driver finished fourth in the standings with six podiums, including a stunning victory on the streets of Monaco. More importantly, he delivered Nissan's first world championship the previous year, transforming his status from a mere driver into a team icon.

Maloney brings a different profile. The young Barbadian has just spent two seasons in Formula E with the Lola team, following a successful junior career in Formula 2. He is seen as fresh talent ready to grow within a major manufacturer. This blend of experience and potential is what Nissan believes is the right formula to tackle the new GEN4 technical regulations, which promise a significant leap in performance.

Nissan team principal Tommaso Volpe did not hide his enthusiasm. "We're delighted to confirm Oliver and Zane as our driver line-up for Season 13. Oli has been an important part of our Formula E journey since joining as a rookie in Season 5. He has gone from being a young driver to becoming a World Champion with us, and we're very happy to continue that relationship as we enter the GEN4 era," Volpe stated.

Volpe also highlighted the balance Maloney brings. "Zane has a different profile. He's young but already has two seasons of Formula E experience, and we believe there is a lot more to come from him," he added. This statement underscores that Nissan is not just looking for immediate results but also long-term investment.

Rowland himself welcomed the confirmation. He admitted he cannot wait to face the new challenge with GEN4 and his new teammate. "I'm really looking forward to Zane joining the team. He's had a great junior career and two years of experience in Formula E, which puts him in a good position to start Season 13 strongly," Rowland said. Meanwhile, Maloney sees this move as a major step in his career, given he will learn from a world champion.

The duo will begin track preparations for the GEN4 era during pre-season testing at Circuito del Jarama on November 16-20. With this announcement, Nissan reaffirms its ambition to remain a dominant force amid major regulatory changes. The combination of championship-winning experience and youthful talent could pose a serious threat to their rivals.
