Entering the 2027 racing season, the MotoGP paddock has been stirred by a major overhaul of the traditional weekend schedule designed to maximize entertainment value. With Liberty Media officially steering the championship, discussions quickly turned toward adapting formats closer to Formula 1.
The most striking modification occurs on Friday, where premier class contenders like Pecco Bagnaia will hit the tarmac three times instead of the usual two. Following an initial practice session, a short 15-minute Sprint-Qualifying shootout will determine the grid for the Saturday sprint race.
Another major change is the complete abolition of the Sunday morning warm-up session. This decision follows confirmation from the tyre supplier that morning track conditions bear little resemblance to actual Grand Prix conditions, prompting a shift in Sunday morning operations.

However, the real uproar across the paddock was less about the schedule itself and more about communication breakdown. Rising star Pedro Acosta and his peers felt completely left out of the loop, as riders were never properly consulted regarding these sweeping format changes.
MotoGP sporting manager Carlos Ezpeleta clarified that the initiative actually stemmed from the teams and manufacturers themselves as business partners. This revelation highlights an ongoing friction regarding rider inclusion in the championship's legislative future.
