High drama struck Rally Italy Sardinia as Thierry Neuville was forced into a sudden retirement due to rear damage on his machine. The heartbreak on the opening kilometer of the second pass through Lerno completely shifted the dynamic at the sharp end of the World Rally Championship field.
The reigning world champion had controlled proceedings late on Friday before being edged out by Oliver Solberg during SS10. That lead change was already a pivotal moment in the championship hunt, but Neuville's subsequent demise turned a tough weekend into a major title setback.
Neuville's exit immediately promoted the chasing pack, handing crucial championship points to title protagonists like Elfyn Evans and Sami Pajari. Evans now projects to collect a valuable haul of points before Sunday's bonus allocations, while Solberg continues to dictate terms out front.

Up the order, Sebastien Ogier inherited second place overall, though he faces intense pressure from the sole surviving factory machine driven by Adrien Fourmaux. Meanwhile, Martins Sesks' promising run ended prematurely on a road section prior to SS10 due to steering gremlins.
