Netflix has finally announced the release date for its new documentary focusing on Michael Schumacher's maiden Formula 1 title-winning campaign. The film, titled Schumacher '94 - The Birth of a Legend, will premiere globally on 2 October 2026, adding to the streaming platform's growing motorsport lineup.
This documentary is more than just nostalgia. It follows the success of the 2021 film Schumacher and, of course, Drive to Survive, which introduced F1 to a new generation. However, Schumacher '94 has a more specific focus: chronicling Schumacher's transformation from an underdog to world champion at the age of 25 during the 1994 season.
The 1994 season itself is one of the most dramatic in F1 history. The tragedy at Imola, which claimed the lives of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, serves as an inescapable dark backdrop. Directed by Christin Freitag and produced by LEONINE Documentaries, the film features Corinna Schumacher, Michael's wife, along with others close to the former Ferrari driver.
According to Netflix's official synopsis, 1994 marked a turning point in F1 history, with Schumacher winning the season opener in Brazil and sparking what became known as 'Schumi Mania.'
