Netflix Sets Date for Schumacher '94 Film on Maiden Title

Netflix has officially announced the release date for its latest documentary focusing on Michael Schumacher. Titled Schumacher '94 – The Birth of a Legend, the film will center on the 1994 season, a pivotal moment in the German driver's career.

That year, a 25-year-old Schumacher clinched his first world championship with Benetton, winning eight races and ultimately securing the title by a single point over Williams' Damon Hill.

The season finale in Adelaide ended in controversial fashion as Schumacher and Hill collided while the Briton attempted to pass for the championship lead. It remains one of the most memorable incidents in Formula 1 history.

However, 1994 was also one of the darkest seasons in the sport, marked by the tragic deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna at Imola. The events cast a shadow over the championship battle.

Schumacher and Benetton also faced intense scrutiny over regulatory disputes and driving standards throughout the campaign. Amid the turmoil, 'Schumi Mania' swept Germany, transforming Schumacher from a rising star into a national hero.

His wife, Corinna Schumacher, will feature prominently, recalling their early relationship and offering a personal perspective on Schumacher away from the track. Former Benetton boss Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone, David Coulthard, and long-time manager Willi Weber also appear.

Directed by Christin Freitag, this marks Netflix's second major Schumacher project following 2021's Schumacher. Since his skiing accident in December 2013, Schumacher has stayed out of the public eye, with his family maintaining strict privacy about his condition.
