MotoGP will host its 2027 season launch event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 21 February 2027. The event marks the beginning of a new era with 850cc machinery set to be introduced next season. The announcement comes after Brazil returned to the championship calendar in 2026, with a hugely successful race in Goiania.
The launch will take place at Botafogo Beach, with the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain as a backdrop. The entire MotoGP grid will be in attendance, making this a massive celebration ahead of the season. This is the third time MotoGP has held such an event, following successes in Bangkok (2025) and Kuala Lumpur (2026).
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP Group, expressed his excitement: "The MotoGP Season Launch has become one of the defining moments of the year, bringing together every team, rider, and manufacturer. The enthusiasm shown by Brazilian fans during our return to Goiania confirmed the extraordinary connection between MotoGP and Brazil."

The launch will also showcase significant technical regulation changes. The 850cc bikes will feature reduced aerodynamic influence and no ride-height devices, a major overhaul expected to enhance racing. Fans are eager to see how riders adapt to the new machinery.
Rio de Janeiro was chosen over Miami, which had emerged as a strong candidate. However, Dorna (now MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group) opted for Brazil due to the warm fan reception and the city's global icon status. This event will serve as a prelude to the season opener at Buriram, Thailand, on 5-7 March 2027.
With two successful editions already, MotoGP hopes the Rio event will be its biggest and most spectacular yet. The combination of an iconic location, passionate fans, and new technology promises an unforgettable moment for all motorsport enthusiasts.
