MotoGP has officially unveiled its 22-round calendar for the 2027 season, marking a new chapter with major technical regulation changes. The announcement comes as the 2026 season enters its final stretch, providing a clear picture of the upcoming competitive landscape.
New Technical Era: 850cc, Pirelli, and Limited Aerodynamics
The 2027 season will be a milestone as engine capacity is reduced from 1,000cc to 850cc. Additionally, Pirelli replaces Michelin as the sole tyre supplier, and aerodynamic regulations are significantly trimmed to create more balanced competition. These changes are expected to alter the competitive landscape and demand rapid adaptation from all teams and riders.
Adelaide and Buenos Aires Join the Grid
The 2027 calendar features two new circuits: Adelaide and Buenos Aires. Adelaide is expected to host the Australian Grand Prix, while Buenos Aires returns after a one-year absence. These venues add global appeal and expand MotoGP's reach into new markets.
Early Season Schedule and Potential Hiatus
The season opens in Thailand (Buriram, March 5-7), followed by Qatar (Lusail, March 12-14). However, if Qatar is cancelled due to geopolitical tensions, MotoGP would face a month-long hiatus after the season opener. After that, the paddock heads to South America for the Brazilian Grand Prix (Goiania, April 2-4) and the Argentine Grand Prix (Buenos Aires, April 9-11). The United States Grand Prix (Austin, April 23-25) occupies a slot three weeks later than usual.
European Leg and Schedule Changes
The European leg begins in Spain (Jerez, May 7-9), swapping dates with France (Le Mans, May 14-16). Italy (Mugello, May 28-30) is followed by Catalonia (Barcelona, June 11-13), a reversal from 2026. The Netherlands (Assen, June 25-27) and Germany (Sachsenring, July 9-11) retain their classic mid-summer slots. However, Germany is no longer the final race before the summer break; that honour falls to the Czech Republic (Brno, July 16-18), which shifts to July for warmer weather.
Summer Break and Asian Leg
The three-week break ends in mid-August with the British Grand Prix (Silverstone, August 13-15), followed by Austria (Spielberg, August 27-29) returning to August. San Marino (Misano, September 10-12) and Aragon (Motorland, September 17-19) remain in September. Portugal (Portimao, October 1-3) serves as the final European prelude before the flyaways. The Asian leg starts two weeks later than in 2026 with a double-header of Japan (Motegi, October 15-17) and Malaysia (Sepang, October 22-24), replacing the usual Japan-Indonesia pattern.
With 22 races across five continents, the 2027 calendar presents significant logistical and competitive challenges. The technical changes and new venues will test the adaptability of teams and riders, while promising a season full of surprises.
