Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez arrive at the Red Bull Ring deadlocked on 274 points, but Marquez holds the top spot by virtue of more race wins this season. It’s the first time Marquez has led the 2026 MotoGP standings, and the pressure feels different this time around.
Marquez, who is on a dominant run with four consecutive victories including Sprints, admitted that his first title fight against Jorge Lorenzo in 2013 was the most pressure he has ever faced. Now, with years of experience, he is better equipped to handle the intense duel with Martin.
On the other side, Martin, who lost momentum due to arm pump at Misano and finished fifth, remains optimistic. The 2024 world champion called the situation "crazy" as he is still level on points with Marquez despite a tough period. For him, the Austrian GP is a golden opportunity to return to winning ways.
Third in the standings is Marco Bezzecchi, who had to swallow a bitter pill after crashing at Turn 13 on the opening lap at Misano. The Aprilia rider admitted that analysing the incident was painful, but he is determined to bounce back at Spielberg. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia was embroiled in controversy after footage of his conversation with Fabio Di Giannantonio surfaced. Bagnaia considered DAZN's publication of the footage disrespectful, and Di Giannantonio agreed that the action was unfair.
Ducati has dominated the Red Bull Ring with four consecutive wins, and has only been beaten twice at the circuit, both times by KTM. Interestingly, KTM hasn't won since 2021, and Pol Espargaro sees an opportunity for Pedro Acosta to claim his first victory. Acosta himself is more realistic, though he admitted that a win in Austria would be a dream scenario before his move to Ducati at the end of the season.
