Ducati factory rider Pecco Bagnaia openly admitted that he was not surprised at all when he crashed out of last Sunday's Indonesian Grand Prix. The weekend at the Mandalika circuit initially showed a glimmer of hope for the Italian rider when he successfully secured a direct spot in Q2 for the first time since June's Dutch Grand Prix.
However, that promising pace failed to convert into a strong race result. After finishing only eighth in the sprint race, disaster struck Bagnaia on lap six of the main grand prix when he lost control of his machine. This tricky situation was triggered by a complete lack of grip and feeling on his motorcycle throughout the entire racing weekend.
Confirming the difficult situation to the media including Crash, Bagnaia explained that he was pushing hard to catch up with Luca Marini. The chase was deliberately initiated in an effort to increase the front tyre pressure on his bike, but it ultimately resulted in a crash on the challenging Mandalika asphalt layout.

"I just crashed," Bagnaia told the media regarding the incident. "No grip, no feeling, and I just crashed. Easy. I wasn't surprised. I was slow, and I was trying to catch up with Luca to raise the front tyre pressure. But I was asking too much of my bike at that moment; it wasn't supporting me. And I crashed."
In separate remarks to Sky Italy, the former world champion highlighted the technical regression experienced by the Borgo Panigale manufacturer over the past two years. He stated that the characteristics of the Mandalika circuit, which require high speed and maximum traction, exposed the ongoing issues regarding the connection between the throttle and rear grip.
Overall, the Indonesian round proved to be a challenging event for all Ducati riders on the grid. Marc Marquez emerged as the highest-placed Ducati finisher in sixth position during the main race, following his brilliant victory in the dramatic sprint event earlier that weekend.
