Former MotoGP rider turned commentator Neil Hodgson predicts more big names from Formula 1 will be tempted to make the switch to MotoGP, following in the footsteps of Guenther Steiner, who now leads Tech3. The expectation comes after Liberty Media, the owner of F1, acquired an 84% stake in MotoGP, sparking hopes of similar growth to what the four-wheeled series has experienced.

Steiner, formerly the team principal of Haas in F1, officially became CEO and owner of Tech3 at the start of 2026. He took over the team from Herve Poncharal through an investment consortium backed by IKON Capital. His presence in the MotoGP paddock has already turned heads, and now Christian Horner, the Red Bull Racing boss, has also been spotted attending several rounds.

According to Hodgson, this is just the beginning. "I do think more will come, and you can't blame them. It makes sense. And it's funny that it's completely split, right? You've got half of the old-school biker fans going, 'Oh, I don't like all that. Don't change it. They're going to spoil our sport.' I'm old-school, but I don't believe that. I'm like, let's get these interesting characters in. Let's invest more money in. Let's build bigger teams, better teams, give more opportunities for people, generally growing our sport. So I'm all for it, but I do think it's going to happen, and we're going to see it," he told RacingNews365.

However, Hodgson acknowledged that the transformation has been slower than many expected. "It's been maybe slower than people expected over the last sort of 18 months. I think people expected maybe a fraction more from Liberty Media. I think they're in this period of standing back, watching what Dorna (the previous majority owners) are doing, and then they'll make the tweaks," he added.

The impact of Liberty Media on MotoGP is already being felt, especially in terms of commercialisation and expanding into the US market. With F1 figures like Steiner coming in, MotoGP is expected to attract new sponsors and audiences, while boosting the competitive spirit on track.
