Maximo Quiles Wraps Up 2026 Moto3 World Title in Mandalika

Maximo Quiles etched his name into the history books by securing the 2026 Moto3 world championship with five rounds to spare, following a dominant victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix. The young talent, who is part of the Vertical Management company founded by eight-time world champion Marc Marquez, delivered a masterclass performance at the Mandalika circuit despite starting further down the grid.

Arriving at the Indonesian venue, the CFMOTO Aspar rider held a commanding 127-point advantage over his closest championship challenger, David Almansa. Meanwhile, fellow title contenders Alvaro Carpe and Brian Uriarte still mathematically remained in the hunt before the weekend commenced. Quiles only needed to maintain a 125-point cushion by the end of the Grand Prix to seal the crown, echoing the feat achieved by Jose Antonio Rueda at the exact same track the previous season.

Saturday's qualifying session presented a stern test after his championship rivals locked out the front row of the grid. Brian Uriarte claimed pole position ahead of Almansa and Carpe, while the 18-year-old Spaniard could only manage sixth place, slotting in behind Leopard Racing duo Adrian Fernandez and Guido Pini.

However, any championship tension vanished instantly as the lights went out, with Quiles making an aggressive surge on the opening lap. He quickly jumped into third before dispatching Uriarte to snatch second place. He then immediately set his sights on title rival David Almansa, executing a brilliant maneuver at Turn 1 to capture the lead of the race.

From that moment onward, Marquez's protege proved untouchable, rapidly building a two-second cushion within the opening six laps before pulling further clear of the chasing pack. Crossing the finish line with a commanding 2.9-second margin, Quiles claimed his 10th grand prix victory of the campaign and extended his unassailable championship lead to 132 points. He thus etched his name as the first Moto3 rider ever to clinch the title with five rounds remaining.

Behind the dominant winner, David Almansa secured a comfortable second-place finish ahead of Matteo Bertelle, while Brian Uriarte narrowly missed out on the podium in fourth. Uriarte's KTM Ajo teammate Alvaro Carpe was firmly in contention for third until he crashed out of proceedings with 10 laps remaining, joining the list of retirement casualties.

This championship triumph arrives precisely 16 years after his mentor Marc Marquez secured the 125cc world crown back in 2010. Looking ahead to the future, the rising star will officially graduate to the Moto2 class for the 2027 season, continuing his journey with the Aspar squad.
