Maximo Quiles made a sensational return to the track by winning the Moto3 race at Aragon, just 21 days after undergoing surgery for a broken collarbone sustained during qualifying at Silverstone.
Starting from third on the grid, Quiles closely followed race leader David Almansa, who started from pole. However, he was initially held up behind his teammate, Marco Morelli, before eventually overtaking him to move into second place in the early laps.
The tension peaked when Quiles decided to take control of the race with seven laps remaining. A slight mistake at Turn 10 caused him to run wide and lose the lead. Almansa regained the top spot, but Quiles quickly responded by retaking the lead at Turn 1.
The fierce battle was far from over. Almansa, who seemed to have saved some energy, closed in on the final lap and attempted to pass Quiles in the last corners. However, Quiles held his nerve and finished first, while Almansa had to settle for second.
This victory is a valuable boost for Quiles in his quest for the Moto3 title. He now extends his lead in the championship standings, reinforcing his status as a strong title contender this season.
Behind the top two, Alvaro Carpe finished fourth, while Brian Uriarte, who served a long lap penalty, managed to climb to fifth. Adrian Cruces, Casey O'Gorman, and Valentin Perrone completed positions six through eight.
The race was also a testament to Quiles' determination, as he performed impressively despite just recovering from injury. With this win, he proved he is not just a talented young rider but a mentally and physically tough competitor.
