Max Verstappen is set for an exciting new challenge outside of single-seaters as he prepares to tackle the season finale of the GT World Challenge Europe Cup. Interestingly, the Red Bull Racing star will share the starting grid with motorcycle racing legend Valentino Rossi for the very first time at Portimao.
Amidst a demanding Formula 1 triple-header schedule, the Dutchman confirmed his participation in the prestigious GT3 endurance event. This unique scheduling means the reigning world champion is facing a grueling stretch of seven consecutive racing weekends.
The convergence of these two motorsport titans has naturally generated massive excitement across the paddock. While expressing admiration for the Italian icon, the four-time F1 title holder admitted he has a rather humorous strategy regarding their on-track proximity.
"I hope I get to see him because he is a very cool guy, but I do not hope to see him in the race," Verstappen explained. Naturally, keeping the nine-time motorcycle world champion behind him would be the ultimate sign of leading the race from the front.
Having already tasted GT3 action at the Nordschleife earlier this year, the Red Bull pacesetter is eager to embrace the distinct challenges of GT racing at the roller-coaster Portuguese venue. With a highly competitive grid awaiting, his primary focus remains on enjoying the weekend and securing a strong team result.
