Max Verstappen stole the show at Sepang after securing a sensational pole position in a qualifying session full of surprises. This achievement marks a historic milestone for Red Bull as they claim their maiden pole position with an in-house power unit developed in collaboration with Ford.
The RB22 looked transformed throughout the weekend, handling the sweeping corners of the circuit with immense poise. Meanwhile, Mercedes struggled to make an impact as their much-hyped upgrade package failed to deliver when it mattered most.
"It’s fantastic," Verstappen said in parc ferme. "Looking at the season, how it started for us, and the progression that we have made, to finally get pole is pretty incredible."

Heading into Sunday's Grand Prix, the four-time world champion made his victory intentions clear. However, he acknowledged the severe challenges posed by the punishing Malaysian heat, which will heavily test drivers, brakes, and tyre management.
"It’s very hot, so the race is definitely going to be a tough one," he concluded, carrying immense confidence into the lights-out moment.
