A truly bizarre and surreal situation unfolded as a multitude of Formula 1 cars ground to a sudden halt on the track during the formation lap due to an unforeseen software glitch. The treacherous wet conditions at the Sepang circuit had already triggered a one-hour delay to proceedings, with the race finally poised to get underway as rainfall steadily decreased to more manageable levels.
However, an undiscovered anomaly hidden deep within the sport's complex new ruleset was brutally exposed right behind the Safety Car. With kilowattage automatically lowered on the hybrid power units when track conditions are wet, competing teams are strictly required to comply with the rigid software parameters implemented by the FIA.
Unfortunately, a profound glitch embedded within this very software caused a number of machines, including the car driven by Max Verstappen, to drastically slow down mid-corner. While the Dutchman managed to cleverly remedy the unfolding situation and keep rolling, several other competitors suffered immensely.

Among the major casualties was Lewis Hamilton, who shared the front row of the starting grid with his fierce rival, whose car was afflicted to the absolute point where it cut out and stopped altogether on the tarmac. This extraordinary mishap forced yet another 40-minute delay, during which time governing body officials hastily rustled up a software patch to rectify the bug.
Throughout the tense formation lap drama, Verstappen was kept thoroughly abreast of the developing situation by his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase. Dilansir from Motorsport Week, the sheer absurdity of the event prompted Verstappen—an outspoken critic of the championship's modern regulations—to burst out laughing over his team radio.
