Maverick Vinales has opened up about the difficult situation surrounding his MotoGP future, revealing that he was under contract until July before being told he no longer had a seat. Vinales discussed the situation in an interview with DAZN Espana.

The situation left Vinales in a difficult position. He said he had signed a contract but was later informed that he was no longer part of the plans for the following season.

“In the end, they locked me in until July, as you well know; I signed a contract and then they told me I was out. So, they left me in limbo, and there’s nothing left. There’s nothing I can do,” Vinales said in his interview with DAZN Espana.

The uncertainty came while Vinales was still recovering from an arm injury. After leaving Sachsenring, he did not immediately return to riding, initially to avoid further inflammation in his arm.

Vinales also revealed that another surgery was initially considered after Sachsenring. However, he firmly rejected the option after already undergoing two arm surgeries and facing another potential six-month recovery period.

“The first information I had after Sachsenring was to have surgery. I said, I don’t want to have surgery. I mean, I’ve had two arm surgeries, and to spend another six months recovering an arm, only for you to leave me without a seat next year,” Vinales explained.

Vinales ultimately decided that surgery was not an option. Instead, he pursued alternative treatment because he felt capable of living a normal life while allowing his arm to recover over time.

“I told them, ‘I’m not having surgery, no way am I having surgery; besides, I can lead a normal life, I’m fine, and it will recover with time.’ So that was not an option for me, having surgery,” he said.

Vinales then underwent PRP treatment, which he said has been working well. His arm continues to improve, although the recovery has been slow and heavy loads can cause his condition to regress.

That made the Austria test particularly important for Vinales. He needed to understand whether his arm could handle the demands of riding again after spending time away from the bike. The response was positive.

“It was very important for me to understand in Austria if it was a punishment for the arm, if it would accept it, and it accepted it well,” Vinales said.

Despite the uncertainty, Vinales remains determined to continue racing in MotoGP. He also has no doubts about his ability to be competitive if another opportunity becomes available.

“I love racing, and I love racing in MotoGP, and I’m sure I’ll be fast. I mean, I have no doubt about that. There’s no room, so there’s nothing I can do,” Vinales stated.

For now, Vinales is continuing to monitor his recovery while facing an uncertain future in MotoGP. His comments underline the difficult position he found himself in after his contract situation changed while he was also managing a lengthy arm recovery.
