The 2026 DTM season finale at the Hockenheimring came to a premature and dramatic halt for Luca Engstler following a brutal high-speed accident that completely wrecked his Lamborghini Temerario GT3. The German driver was forced to withdraw from Sunday's final race as his team faced insurmountable damage to the machinery.
The incident erupted during the second lap of Saturday's race during a fierce battle for the lead position. Contact occurred between Engstler and Lucas Auer near the east grandstand, triggering a violent spin that sent the car slamming heavily into the track's protective barriers.
ABT Sportsline team principal Thomas Biermaier provided a grim assessment of the wreckage in an interview, explaining that the chassis, gearbox, and engine components suffered catastrophic structural failures that made trackside repairs entirely impossible.

Telemetry data retrieved from the vehicle revealed the terrifying scale of the dynamics involved. Biermaier noted that the initial wheel-to-wheel contact happened at a staggering 210 km/h, with the subsequent spin maintaining a velocity of 190 km/h before engine shutdown severed data logging right before the final impact.
Despite the severe setback that leaves only 20 cars on the grid for the final showdown, the primary relief centered on the driver's well-being. The team announced plans to thoroughly strip down the chassis back at the Kempten workshop to evaluate whether the damaged frame can be salvaged or if a complete replacement is required.
