MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Massimo Rivola of Aprilia Racing has stated that his team currently has the best bike in MotoGP 2026, following a dominant start that has placed the Italian manufacturer at the top of all championship standings.

Aprilia’s rise to this position has been a long-term process. Since returning to the premier class in 2015 with the RS-GP, the Noale-based manufacturer spent several seasons at the back of the grid. Early signs of progress emerged in 2021 with a podium for Aleix Espargaro, followed by a breakthrough victory in 2022 that lifted Aprilia into the top three of the constructors’ standings.

That upward trajectory continued into last season, when Aprilia secured second place overall. However, the 2026 campaign has marked a significant step forward, with the team delivering a level of performance that positions it as the benchmark on the grid.

With Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin, Aprilia has claimed four wins from the first six races, including Sprint events. Bezzecchi has led every lap of the three grands prix so far, while Martin has added a Sprint victory and consecutive second-place finishes.

The strength of the package extends beyond the factory team. Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez secured a double podium at the Buriram opener, while Ai Ogura was denied a potential historic one-two-three finish in the United States due to a technical issue.

As a result, Aprilia heads into the European phase of the season leading the riders’, constructors’, and teams’ championships, underlining the effectiveness of its 2026 package.

“I think it’s clear that, so far, the best bike is Aprilia. And that’s good news.”

Rivola emphasised that the performance is supported by internal data gathered during development, suggesting that the current competitiveness was anticipated within the team.

“The bike is fast almost everywhere. The data already showed that we were competitive.”

“Now we go to Jerez, which will be an important test to understand where we really stand.”

From a technical perspective, the result at the Circuit of the Americas was particularly significant, as it marked the first use of the standard rear tyre casing this season. Aprilia maintained its performance advantage under these conditions, reinforcing the versatility of the RS-GP across different setups.

In the championship standings, Bezzecchi holds a narrow four-point lead over Martin. The closest non-Aprilia challenger, Pedro Acosta of KTM, is already trailing by a notable margin. The leading Ducati rider, Fabio Di Giannantonio, faces a further points deficit, while reigning champion Marc Marquez sits even further behind.

This early dominance positions Aprilia as the reference point in MotoGP 2026. However, Rivola stopped short of declaring his team as outright title favourites, acknowledging that the season remains long and competitive dynamics can still evolve.

As the championship moves to Jerez, Aprilia’s performance will serve as a critical benchmark. If the team can sustain its advantage at circuits where rivals have strong historical data, its status as the leading contender for the 2026 MotoGP title will be further reinforced.
