Marc Marquez once again proved his dominance at the Aragon circuit by clinching his second consecutive victory at the 2026 Aragon MotoGP. This win also extended his perfect record at the track, now with six wins for Ducati and eight overall in the premier class. With this result, Marc Marquez moved ahead of Marco Bezzecchi in the fight for second place in the world championship standings.
From the start, Marquez was involved in a fierce battle with Bezzecchi, who started from pole. However, the duel on the back straight shifted when Pedro Acosta, who will become his teammate next season, emerged as the main challenger. Acosta managed to put KTM on the podium for the first time since Balaton, while Bezzecchi had to settle for third, but still chipped away at the points gap to championship leader Jorge Martin.
The crucial moment came on the first lap when Marquez attempted to pass Bezzecchi at Turn 1, but the Aprilia rider cut back on the exit. Marquez held firm into Turn 2, but his ride-height device was still down, causing sparks and running wide. This allowed Bezzecchi and a fast-starting Martin to get through.
Marquez immediately fought back, passing Martin at the chicane before the back straight. Alex Marquez and Acosta also put pressure on, dropping Martin to fifth. The leading quartet then edged away. On lap six of 23, Marquez lunged for the lead at the same chicane and succeeded, then traded blows with Bezzecchi along the back straight. Bezzecchi blinked first in the braking zone, and Acosta took advantage to snatch second behind new leader Marquez.
After that, Marquez gradually pulled away from Acosta, with Bezzecchi about a second behind. The top five remained unchanged to the chequered flag: Marquez, Acosta, Bezzecchi, Alex Marquez, and Martin. Fermin Aldeguer from Gresini secured sixth place, beating Fabio Di Giannantonio from VR46, who was returning from a back injury.
Unfortunately, Raul Fernandez, who won at Silverstone, had to retire with a technical issue, dealing another blow to his title hopes. His Trackhouse teammate Ai Ogura was missing due to injury. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia crashed out of seventh early in the race, followed by Franco Morbidelli. Toprak Razgatlioglu also crashed from 15th with three laps to go, handing a point to Johann Zarco, who capped his comeback weekend.
All riders used medium compound tyres, front and rear. The next MotoGP round at Misano takes place from 11-13 September.
