As the opening session of the 2026 MotoGP weekend at MotorLand Aragon got underway, all eyes were on the left-hander-dominated circuit. And true to form, Marc Marquez hit the ground running, topping FP1 with a 1m47.532s lap. This wasn't just any result; it was a statement from a rider who has always felt at home on this track.
Behind him, a surprise emerged as Raul Fernandez clung closely, just 0.035s adrift, hinting at a promising Aprilia performance at Aragon. Marco Bezzecchi rounded out the top three, while Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta secured top-five spots, setting the stage for a fierce battle at the sharp end.
However, the spotlight was on Pecco Bagnaia, who could only manage 20th place, 1.875s off the pace. It's an alarm bell for the Ducati rider, who seemed to struggle finding rhythm on his Desmosedici. Jorge Martin also failed to impress, sitting 18th, 1.591s behind.
On the other hand, Yamaha's performance is worth noting. Jack Miller, now riding for Pramac, finished sixth, followed by Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Fabio Quartararo, despite being tenth, showed consistency that could prove valuable for qualifying. The midfield is incredibly tight, with minimal gaps separating riders.
