Marc Marquez waited until the final lap to set the fastest time in the second practice session for the San Marino MotoGP at Misano. The Gresini Ducati rider clocked a 1:31.040, displacing the Aprilia duo who had dominated for most of the session.
Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin looked set to lock out the top two until the closing minutes. However, Marquez showed his true pace on his final lap, securing the top spot. Martin managed to slip ahead of Bezzecchi at the chequered flag, relegating the Italian to third.
Aprilia's Dominance Fades in Final Minutes
Aprilia had been impressive throughout the session. Bezzecchi, riding in front of his home crowd, led for much of the time. But Marquez's late surge made the difference. Martin, who finished second, also demonstrated the competitiveness of the RS-GP, though it wasn't enough to beat Marquez.
Behind the top three, two satellite Ducati riders completed the top five. Franco Morbidelli finished fourth, followed by Alex Marquez in fifth. Raul Fernandez was close behind them, while Fabio Di Giannantonio had to settle for seventh.
Francesco Bagnaia, usually a threat, could only manage eighth. The factory Ducati rider struggled to find his rhythm at Misano. Fabio Quartararo showed speed in the final laps to take ninth, with Pedro Acosta completing the top ten.
Johann Zarco was 12th, ahead of Joan Mir and Pol Espargaro, who continues to stand in for Maverick Vinales. Diogo Moreira and Enea Bastianini were the last riders within a second of Marquez's best time, in 15th and 16th respectively.
Brad Binder ended up 17th, while Luca Marini was the sole crasher and took 18th. Toprak Razgatlioglu finished 19th, ahead of Jack Miller and Alex Rins, who completed the standings in 21st.
