Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi delivered a masterclass performance to claim victory at the MotoGP Qatar Grand Prix at the Lusail International Circuit, while Ducati's Marc Marquez took another giant leap toward sealing the 2026 world championship crown.
Marquez's crucial second-place finish means that any single point he scores, or any dropped points by Bezzecchi across the final two rounds of the season in Portimao and Valencia, will mathematically eliminate Bezzecchi from the title fight.
Bezzecchi controlled the race from pole position right from the start, anchoring an early Aprilia one-two as Raul Fernandez charged past Marquez following an aggressive opening move at Turn 1 past Trackhouse team-mate Ai Ogura.

Marquez opted for a cautious approach during the opening phase, allowing the leading Aprilia machines to break clear and even yielding third place to Pedro Acosta on the third lap. However, Acosta soon ran into front tyre pressure struggles, forcing him to ease off and let the eight-time world champion back through.
Once clear of the KTM pursuer, Marquez hunted down and overtook Fernandez for second place. Further back, an heroic Jorge Martin gritted his teeth following a recent wrist fracture to secure seventh place ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio.
