MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Marco Bezzecchi delivered a commanding lap record for Aprilia Racing to top Friday Practice at the 2026 Thai MotoGP in Buriram, while Francesco Bagnaia suffered an early-season setback.
Aprilia converted its strong pre-season signals into outright performance across Friday’s sessions. After leading FP1, Bezzecchi carried that momentum into the rain-threatened one-hour Practice and unleashed a 1m28.526s in the closing stages — a new lap record at Buriram. The benchmark placed him 0.421s clear of reigning world champion Marc Marquez aboard the Ducati Lenovo Team machine.
Fabio Di Giannantonio secured third for VR46 Racing Team, ensuring Ducati placed three bikes directly into Q2 alongside Aprilia. Pedro Acosta led the KTM Factory Racing charge in fourth, while Jorge Martin completed the top five on the second factory Aprilia.

The looming threat of rain reshaped strategy, with riders prioritising time attacks over race simulations to secure a top-ten Q2 berth. Bezzecchi initially set the pace with a 1m29.192s before Di Giannantonio briefly moved ahead. However, the Italian’s final push proved decisive, eclipsing the field by over four tenths as track evolution peaked.
Bagnaia endured the first major shock of the 2026 campaign, finishing 15th and 1.298s off the pace, forcing him into Q1 on Saturday morning. Joan Mir delivered a strong showing for Honda HRC in seventh, while Brad Binder and Ai Ogura secured Q2 progression. Ogura later slid off at Turn 7 but escaped injury. Meanwhile, Michele Pirro, deputising for Gresini, is under investigation by FIM stewards for allegedly impeding Alex Marquez during a flying lap.
With Aprilia and Ducati placing three riders each directly into Q2 and KTM and Honda securing two apiece, the competitive balance heading into qualifying suggests a tightly contested pole battle before the championship’s opening Sprint and Grand Prix.
