MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Marc Marquez of Ducati Lenovo Team secured his first victory of the 2026 season in the Brazilian MotoGP Sprint, defeating Fabio di Giannantonio after a decisive late-race move at Goiania.

Starting from third on the grid, Marquez launched strongly but was initially unable to challenge Di Giannantonio, who converted pole position into an early lead for VR46 Racing Team. Fabio Quartararo of Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP briefly displaced Marquez to third during the opening lap, forcing the Spaniard to regroup before reclaiming second position within the opening stages.

As Di Giannantonio established a gap of over one second, early race indicators suggested a controlled performance from the Italian rider. However, Marquez gradually increased his pace as the sprint progressed, maintaining tyre efficiency while reducing the deficit. By the final five laps, he had closed in significantly and positioned himself within striking distance.

The decisive moment came with three laps remaining when Di Giannantonio ran wide at Turn 12. Marquez capitalised immediately, executing a clean overtake into Turn 13. Despite sustained pressure in the closing laps, he maintained track position and crossed the finish line just 0.213 seconds ahead, securing victory in the 15-lap sprint.

Behind the leading Ducati pair, Jorge Martin of Aprilia Racing completed the podium after a measured recovery drive from fifth on the grid. He benefitted from an error by Marco Bezzecchi and demonstrated stronger pace over the second half of the race to consolidate third place.

Bezzecchi finished fourth, followed by Ai Ogura, ensuring three Aprilia machines featured prominently behind the leading Ducatis. Quartararo completed the top six, marking a competitive showing for Yamaha under challenging circuit conditions.

The final points-paying positions were claimed by Alex Marquez, Francesco Bagnaia, and Pedro Acosta. Bagnaia was the only rider in the points to opt for a medium rear tyre, a strategy that did not yield a performance advantage compared to the prevailing soft compound choice.

The sprint was also impacted by earlier disruptions, as track repairs were required following the appearance of a surface defect on the main straight. The start was delayed by over an hour, leading to a revised schedule that pushed Moto2 qualifying to Sunday.

Marquez’s victory provides a critical boost in the early championship standings, while reinforcing Ducati’s competitive strength in sprint conditions. With the main race still to come, the focus now shifts to whether Di Giannantonio can respond over full race distance and challenge Marquez once again in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
