Marc Marquez sent a strong signal early in the Aragon MotoGP weekend by topping the opening free practice session (FP1) on Friday afternoon local time. The Ducati rider clocked a 1:47.532s lap, comfortably ahead of his rivals.
The session at MotorLand Aragon was a crucial one for Marquez and his team as they looked to respond to Aprilia's dominant showing at Silverstone. The lap time came in tricky conditions, with the track still green but improving throughout the session.
Behind Marquez, the battle was intense. Pedro Acosta was close but failed to improve after crashing in the final five minutes. Despite the fall, the young KTM rider held on to fifth place, just behind Jack Miller in sixth.
The VR46 duo of Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio showed solid form, taking seventh and eighth respectively. Di Giannantonio, who was the first crasher of the weekend, still managed a competitive lap.
Meanwhile, Fermin Aldeguer, fresh off his confirmed move to VR46 for next season, impressed with ninth place. Fabio Quartararo rounded out the top ten, followed by Johann Zarco, who returned to action after three months out.
On the other side, title contenders struggled. Championship leader Jorge Martin could only manage 18th, while Francesco Bagnaia was stuck in 20th. Enea Bastianini also failed to find his rhythm, ending up 21st.
This result is a notable talking point ahead of qualifying and the race, with the competition expected to intensify. With Marquez's impressive performance, the pressure is now on his rivals to step up.
