MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Marc Marquez of Ducati Lenovo Team encountered notable challenges during the 2026 Brazil MotoGP in Goiania, despite remaining competitive according to analysis from Dani Pedrosa.

The reigning world champion opened the season with strong pace in Thailand, including a direct battle with Pedro Acosta. However, a technical issue in the grand prix ended his victory chances, before he rebounded in Brazil by securing a Sprint win.

In the main race, however, Marquez was unable to match the pace of his key rivals. Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia Racing dominated proceedings, supported by team-mate Jorge Martin, while Fabio Di Giannantonio reversed the Sprint result to secure a podium ahead of Marquez.

Pedrosa observed that Marquez did not appear fully comfortable on the bike, particularly when dealing with track undulations and when attempting to push at maximum performance levels.

“He looked a bit uncomfortable on the bike, especially on the undulations and when he tried to push hard. The bike immediately told him no.”

“Marc has a special ability to manage the limit. That’s why he managed to stay close to Di Giannantonio without letting him pull too far ahead.”

Despite the limitations, Pedrosa highlighted Marquez’s capacity to extract results under difficult conditions. The Spaniard remained in contention for a podium until the closing stages, demonstrating his ability to operate near the limit even without a fully optimised package.

“He fought for the podium until the end, but he didn’t have everything he normally has.”

“I don’t know if it’s a physical issue, a setup issue, or both, but he struggled.”

Pedrosa suggested that a combination of physical condition and technical setup could be contributing factors, particularly following Marquez’s shoulder surgery that ruled him out of the final rounds last season. Even so, Marquez’s race management allowed him to secure valuable points during a phase where outright competitiveness may not yet be fully realised.

“We’re seeing a Marquez who understands he’s not at his best and is trying to take as many points as possible.”

With the Brazil result, Marquez sits fifth in the championship standings heading into the next round at the Circuit of the Americas. Historically, each of his seven title-winning MotoGP seasons included at least one grand prix victory within the opening three rounds, making the upcoming race in Austin a significant benchmark.

Pedrosa also pointed to the current strength of Aprilia, highlighting the RS-GP’s balance across aerodynamics, traction, and cornering performance without compromising top speed.

“They’ve found the right balance between aerodynamics, traction, and cornering ability without losing top speed.”

“In the end, they are able to transfer power to the ground better than the others.”

As the championship progresses, Marquez faces a critical phase where consistency and recovery of peak performance will be essential, with Austin potentially serving as a turning point in his 2026 title campaign.
