Marc Marquez has pinpointed the switch from Michelin to Pirelli tyres as the biggest technical change coming to MotoGP in 2027, and he believes riders graduating from Moto2 – who already race on Pirelli rubber – will have a head start. The eight-time world champion shared his thoughts after testing the 850cc prototype with Pirelli tyres at the Brno test.

Speaking at Silverstone, Marc Marquez explained that while the bikes will change next year, the difference won't be massive. "The bikes will change, but not a lot. They are a little bit less powerful, but the tyres will be the biggest difference," he said. He noted that every tyre manufacturer has a different riding style, which will be a challenge for those accustomed to Michelin.

Marquez, who started his premier-class career on Bridgestone tyres in 2013 before winning five titles on Michelin, sees a clear advantage for Moto2 graduates. "I think that the young riders who are coming from Moto2, they were 'born' with Pirelli tyres, so it will be a bit easier for them to adapt," he added. He described the situation as "very interesting" and is eager to see how it unfolds.

Five riders are tipped to step up to MotoGP with Pirelli experience. David Alonso has been confirmed at Honda, and Dani Holgado will join Gresini Ducati. Izan Guevara (Pramac Yamaha), Senna Agius (Tech3 KTM), and WorldSBK leader Nicolo Bulega (VR46 Ducati) are also expected to make the move.

In a twist, Pirelli will exit WorldSBK as Michelin takes over next season. This could pave the way for MotoGP riders like Brad Binder, Jack Miller, Franco Morbidelli, and Alex Rins to switch to WorldSBK, where their Michelin experience would prove valuable.

Marquez will remain at Ducati in 2027, partnering with new teammate Pedro Acosta. He admitted that the one-day test in Brno wasn't enough to fully understand the Pirelli tyres, but he is confident the changes will make the championship more competitive and exciting.

With sweeping regulation changes on the horizon, MotoGP 2027 looks set to be a season of transition and surprises. Young riders with Pirelli know-how could emerge as dark horses, while veterans will need to adapt quickly to stay at the front.
