Mandalika Challenge: Marc Marquez Faces Poor Record in Indonesia

Heading into the upcoming round at the Mandalika Circuit, Marc Marquez arrives with valuable momentum after delivering a stellar, maximum-points performance in Motegi. The standout Ducati rider has successfully closed the gap and now sits just two points behind championship leader Jorge Martin. However, a notoriously difficult history at the Indonesian venue serves as a major psychological hurdle in his ongoing title campaign.

The Lombok circuit has historically proven to be an unforgiving hunting ground for the nine-time world champion. Sparked by last year's crash stemming from an misjudgment by Marco Bezzecchi, this weekend demands ultimate focus. More importantly, statistics highlight that the veteran rider has never managed to see the checkered flag in a main race on Indonesian soil.

Despite this daunting record, his physical feedback and bike control since the Aragon round have maintained an encouraging upward trajectory, injecting fresh confidence into the squad. “Things went well in Japan: we were always competitive and fought for the victory with all our energy. From Aragon onwards, my riding sensations have been consistently good and this gives us confidence,” Marc Marquez explained regarding his recent form.

Addressing his dismal streak in Lombok, the Spaniard firmly stated his intent to break the curse and secure a clean race finish. “Here in Indonesia, at least on paper, it has never been my ideal track and in the past I have never managed to finish the race; jokes aside, the main objective together with the whole team is precisely to reverse this trend and have a good weekend,” he added.

Meanwhile, fellow title contender Francesco Bagnaia is similarly gearing up to conquer the demanding Mandalika layout. Although admitting to having struggled heavily with machine handling during the Japanese GP, the reigning champion remains determined to extract performance and secure vital points.

“In Motegi we managed to take home more important points, even if I must admit I struggled quite a bit while riding. In the past I have been fast and winning on this track, even if last year we suffered a lot. The goal is to continue working with the team to rediscover the best feeling and return to fighting for the positions that matter,” Francesco Bagnaia concluded.
