M-Sport founder Malcolm Wilson has candidly admitted that his organization must deliver a race-winning car right out of the box when their renewed partnership with Ford officially introduces a brand-new design in 2029 for the WRC.
The American automotive giant announced its full-scale return to the World Rally Championship earlier this month, agreeing to a deal that brings Ford Racing back as a full manufacturer entry for the first time since the 2012 season concluded.
The roadmap begins by entering M-Sport's upgraded Rally2 Kit car during the 2028 campaign, paving the way for the introduction of the first vehicle built to 2027 Rally1 regulations a year later. Enhanced technical backing from the US is expected to replicate the successes previously achieved with the Puma model.

Speaking exclusively, Wilson stressed that his squad is left with absolutely no excuses moving forward. The team boasts a stellar track record of winning with their last five newly designed rally machines on their respective debuts, setting a high benchmark for the upcoming project.
A precise two-year development window has been established to ensure the upcoming machine meets long-term technical regulations. With maximum manufacturer backing secured, the objective remains clear and absolute: returning straight to the winner's circle from day one.
