The MotoGP paddock faced another major setback ahead of the main race at the Lusail International Circuit as Luca Marini officially withdrew from the Qatar Grand Prix. The Honda rider has struggled continuously with severe fatigue stemming from a viral infection contracted last month, forcing him to pull out after the morning warm-up session following a quiet 13th-place finish in the sprint.
Marini's late withdrawal further depleted an already thinned-out starting grid, reducing the total number of active participants to just 16 riders. The weekend has been severely impacted by various absences, most notably Yamaha's complete withdrawal due to geopolitical factors, alongside Pecco Bagnaia being ruled out of the entire event after suffering metatarsal fractures in his right foot during a heavy sprint crash.
Uncertainty also surrounded the Red Bull KTM Tech3 garage regarding Maverick Vinales, who expressed extreme frustration over lingering shoulder pain from last year's injury, admitting he no longer wants to ride under such physical limitations. However, Vinales completed laps in the warm-up session, and the team issued no official withdrawal notice prior to the race start.

This drastically reduced grid directly impacts the championship mathematical permutations, meaning Jorge Martin only needs to finish ahead of a single rider in the race to take the title fight to Portugal, even if championship leader Marc Marquez secures maximum victory points.
As the grueling 2026 season reaches its demanding final stages, physical endurance and fatigue management have unexpectedly become the ultimate battlegrounds for riders fighting through the pain barrier.
